Product Description

4 OLD FARM TOKENS or sometimes called PICKERS TICKETS around here

Farm name ; EMSLEY & COLLINS , WHAPLODE

4 old farm tokens from the early C20th , used to pay casual farm workers during harvest times .. They were paid with these tokens in the fields , so much per box picked .. which the worker then exchanged for real money at the end of the day

On the back they say EMSLEY & COLLINS , WHAPLODE

Whaplode is a village in South Lincolnshire between Holbeach and Spalding

The tokens measure about an inch across and are made of brass

There are two different designs .. and each design has an old 1 penny value and an old 1 and a half penny value

They have makers marks .. 2 are by Ardhill of Leeds and 2 are by Vaughton , Birmingham

A couple of them also have tiny lettering on the backs ; Burall Bros , Wisbech .. I think this is the supplier of the tokens .. the firm seem to be still in business producing labels for the food packaging industry

CONDITION
As you can see the 1d ones have notches clipped into the edges .. I would guess to make them easily distinguishable from the 1.5d ones in the field
